So… how have you been building your brand lately?

Now, I’m writing this in my best Barry White voice… “How’s
your Brand Lo-o-o-o-o-ve, baby?”

It may sound obvious, but increase Brand Love by branding better.

Branding your business better will help you increase awareness,
attractiveness, and affection of your prospects (so they become
customers), current customers (some people call them clients),
and employees (yup, they need to be sold on you, too).

Huh? Ive heard of brand awareness, and brand attractiveness I
understand, but affection? Brand Love? Is this guy smoking
banana peels?

OK, I admit, that term may be hard to take– at first. But,
havent you expressed to someone that you love something? I
love that soda. I love their pizza. I love that store.

See? Youve been enamored with a brand before. And theres a
very good chance you still are. So are other people.

Why would you say you love soda, pizza, or a store? Because an
important nerve of yours has been hit. Some might call it the
Sweet Spot. And it may not be all that obvious what that Sweet
Spot is.

A soda tastes best to you over all others by iteself. Or it may
go better with certain types of food you enjoy. Perhaps your
favorite pizza place makes the best tasting pizza. Maybe you
enjoy the surroundings and atmosphere as much as the food.

When you think about your favorite shop, maybe you think they
always have just what you really want. Maybe you get treated
like royalty. Or you feel good you can afford what they have, or
because you can get a lot without spending much.

Thankfully, somebody has probably said, I love that… about
your business. If they havent, you probably havent been open
very long– or will be open for much longer. Think of the last
referral that came in. They probably did so because someone had
high praise for you.

Now… the trick is to find out what was so praiseworthy, and
effectively comunicate it to similar prospects.

How to do it? Just ask for feedback.

Talk to your clients/customers about their experiences. Usually,
they will have good things to say. Or at least they may buffet
some less-than-glowing reviews with some good stuff. Speaking of
less than glowing, when asking for feedback, be prepared for
warts and all.

In fact, ask for it.

When its really bad, youll hear it right away. But when there
are minor slip-ups, or things your business may NOT be doing,
those can easily fall through the cracks. Always stress you want
candid, HONEST answers. If youre not willing to search out the
bad stuff, it will only get worse, and small problems can grow
exponentially.

Or somebody realizes how you’re underserving the market and
takes advantage before you do.

So, ask your clients questions casually. Or even print up 100 or
so quick response cards with three to five questions. With only
a couple of well-worded questions and space for their own
additional thoughts, you may not only get good feedback, you
might gain insight about your market, operation, or clientele
that takes business to the next level.

Although we generally experience symptoms of depression as primarily physical and emotional, their essential core may lie in something that cannot be seen that is of a spiritual nature, namely, the relative absence of the energy of light. When missing, the absence of light can feel like the sun covered over for long periods of time by dark clouds, causing a sense of yearning for warmth and radiance and in some, a sense of depletion and fatigue. This yearning can be completely unknown to the one experiencing it who may only feel the result of what is missing, not the cause.

Light of a higher vibration than physical light is a spiritual energy part of the energy of Creation. This light has been with us since the beginning, referred to in the Book of Genesis as the primary utterance -let there be light. When translated onto the physical level, it becomes a powerful force for healing and change, helping all beings to evolve and human beings to transcend the limitations of darkness that they may have carried for a very long time. In many instances, thoughts, feelings, and physical symptoms associated with depression are each influenced by the absence or presence of spiritual light which both supports and regulates a flow of energy to the brain and to other organs, enhancing and maintaining their many functions.

Often, a soul may be hungry for light and not know what it is that they are hungry for. Frequently, this hunger feels formless and nameless, occurring only in relation to the feeling that there is something missing - a place of emptiness that cannot be filled. Those who are more behaviorally-focused may point to activities of a more meaningful kind that could help with this emptiness including work and relationships with others, and this is frequently true: such activities often help. However, sometimes the soul that is hungry finds that nothing will do that no activity, no work, and no relationship can make a difference in terms of what the inner self is actually seeking. The emptiness feels beyond that.

The hunger of the soul for light, especially when the language of spirituality has not been acquired fully, can be both painful and confusing. A person can feel lost, misunderstood, out of place, with a sense of not belonging anywhere. In fact, without the spiritual underpinnings anchored in awareness, it can feel like one doesnt even belong to oneself. Then, there is a kind of gray pallor that is cast over existence as one goes through the motions of living, with the feeling that everything should be alright, but isnt. This nameless thing that it is possible to long for involves a hunger at the deepest level. It is both a hunger for spiritual connection - for a relationship with the universe in which there is a sense of belonging and home. It is also a hunger of the body to be filled with light and a recognition, usually beyond words, that we suffer from a sense of depletion. This hunger of the body can occur more powerfully in those who have been exposed to great spiritual light previously, often in other lifetimes. Where this exposure has created a living, embodied experience of connection with God and with the higher realms, one who has lost this connection often feels a mysterious and poignant sense of emptiness.

There is no instant remedy for this situation, for things of the spirit for the most part do not happen instantly. But they can happen in a relatively short span of time, once it is recognized that it is light that is longed for, and once the search begins for an adequate way of providing it.

To initiate our search, we can begin by praying in a simple way for spiritual nourishment. Even if prayer has not been habitual or even desired within our life, a simple kind of asking to be led in the direction of healing and light can open doors of awareness. Simultaneously, we can be on the lookout for conversations, books, people, and unexpected situations that let both heart and body know that we are happier that we feel more alive. For it is the feeling of greater aliveness that often signals the presence of increased light. In the embrace of light, we feel held, nourished, uplifted, and loved. This upliftment fills the empty places within us that have waited for so long to be filled. It allows our heart to touch its deepest essence and core the Divine nature at the very center of our being.

There is a saying that depression is anger turned in on itself. That means the anger that you may be holding within your mind has nowhere to go and rather than being expressed outwardly, it is festering inside. Like undigested food that turns putrid, the anger becomes depression. You feel lethargic and dull, uninterested in anything. You may find yourself without energy and not wanting to get out of bed. You may find yourself crying, moody and irritable. Your sex drive may diminish to nothing. You may even feel suicidal. In an attempt to remedy the situation, you seek medical advice and may be prescribed any number of antidepressants. These medications may prove useful as they alter the chemistry of your brain which has been thrown off kilter by the repressed anger. But, the medications are only helping alleviate the symptoms; they do not remove the cause.

There is another saying that underneath anger is sorrow. That means that our anger is really an expression of loss. Our anger is an expression of unresolved grief. This makes sense because the second stage of loss and grief is anger. The five stages of loss and grief, as outlined by Elizabeth Kubler-Ross, are denial, anger, bargaining, depression and acceptance. These stages are not necessarily linear. They may arise in various shifting sequences. Also, current research suggests that there is a sixth stage, the phase of “yearning.” Yearning is a powerful feeling and may permeate the other stages as an underlying reality experienced as a hole in our heart - something missing which we desperately want.

I would suggest that the fourth stage is actually sadness, not depression, which when expressed leads directly to acceptance. Depression itself is really not a natural emotion. It is a distortion of sadness and sorrow which comes from loss. The difference between sadness and depression is that sadness runs its course whereas depression can go on for years and years. Our loss can be anything: a person, a shattered dream, a material thing….And we may yearn extensively for that person or dream to return. Our life contains many losses and we are often conditioned to treat our losses in a stoic manner depriving ourselves of the natural response of grief. Our culture is also rather inept at understanding the energy of anger and how best to express it - to release it. Consequently, when we arrive at the second stage of loss, which is anger, it is often repressed giving rise to the festering which brings about depression. Anger at loss can quickly give way to sadness if we understand and allow the naturalness of sadness and sorrow.

As William Shakespeare states through the voice of Duke Vicentio in his play Measure for Measure “…Yet in this life lie hid morethousand deaths…” suggesting the myriad of losses, or “little deaths” we experience in a lifetime. Even the natural process of maturation requires us to lose our childhood for adolescence and adolescence for adulthood. We must often lose our innocence for experience and our heart for love. Who has not experienced a broken heart? And who has not been angry over such loss when in fact sorrow is the real emotion so often disallowed by our culture. But a broken heart is an open heart, a heart that can feel.

In the Judo-Christian system, our great loss is expulsion from paradise, from Eden. And from that loss has come our existence in this “veil of tears.” Sorrow can be found around every corner. And yet, what we find instead of sorrow is hatred and violence. Even the happiest person must live in this world of injustice, inequality and suffering. There is a natural sadness that comes from living in this world. But that can be distorted into an unnatural depression as opposed to a philosophical compassion.

Although depression is accepted as a bona fide ailment with an official diagnosis, anger, sadness and sorrow, even yearning, have no such diagnostic status. There are no prescriptive medications to alleviate those natural states. They must simply be lived through as part of the human experience.

If you are feeling depressed, examine your life for the many losses you have suffered. If you are angry, examine your life for the many losses you have suffered. As you begin to touch upon these losses, let yourself feel the sadness and sorrow; cry tears. Release the pain. Let yourself yearn for that which you miss, whether it is a lost love, a recently deceased pet, the passing of a friend or, at the deepest level of our consciousness, the separation of our individual self from the Eden that certainly exists within the secret caverns of our dreams. Although you may be deeply saddened and you may yearn in agony, you will feel much less depressed and more alive as a human being.

After the release of the SQL Server 2000 the way the data is retrieved has taken a new dimension. The support for XML format is there from the version of SQL Server 2000.

With that it is possible to retrieve data from the SQL Server database in the XML format. SQLXML is used for this purpose. With such possibilities it is possible to access data in the SQL Server using URL based queries where the queries are transported using HTTP.

If you are already familiar with the SQL queries then it is very easy to create queries that return data in XML format. The syntax for such SQL queries would be,

SELECT … FOR XML mode

The values of the mode may be auto, explicit, raw, and nested. Depending on the mode that you are using the format of the XML output varies. If the mode is auto, the resulting XML document will have an element for each row that is found in the table of the SQL Server database.

In the explicit mode it is possible to define how the columns of the table should be returned to the query. In the raw mode all the fields of the table are considered as the attributes of the element of the XML data that is returned. The columns that have null values are not included. The returned elements have a row prefix to it.

The nested mode allows formatting to be done at the client side and it is the same as the auto mode except for this difference. The explicit mode is the most powerful mode for returning data. Apart from these there are optional parameters for the SQL query. The optional parameters as the name indicates can either be used or neglected. The optional parameters that can be used are Binary Base64, Elements, and XMLData. With the optional parameters in place the syntax would take the form,

SELECT … FOR XML mode [, BINARY BASE64] [, ELEMENTS] [, XMLDATA]

The Binary Base64 option is used if you want to retrieve data in the binary format from the database. Binary data that is found in the database should be retrieved using this option. The modes that are used to retrieve data in binary format are the raw and the explicit modes.

The Elements option is used to return the data in the table as child elements. The fields of the row become the attributes of the element returned if you are not using the Elements option. Thus for each row you get an element with child elements being the fields of the row.

Auto mode is the only mode in which you can use the Elements option. If you want to define the format that is returned you need an XSD schema for that. The XMLData option allows this. This option adds a schema so that you get the format that you want for your XML data.

Managed classes are available in the .Net framework for interacting with the database. The Managed classes that are useful for this are SqlXmlCommand, SqlXmlParameter, SqlXmlAdapter, and SqlXmlException.

The SqlXmlCommand is used to query the XML templates. These are the XML documents that have the SQLXML queries in them. Processing the queries on the client side is possible with this managed class.

A managed class called the SqlXmlAdapter class is available which can be used to fill the dataset. This is the adapter class for the provider.

Another managed class called the SqlXmlParameter is available which can be used to pass parameters. This class is used along with the SqlXmlCommand managed class.

A class for trapping errors from the SQL Server is available which is called the SqlXmlException managed class.

A simple example of using the managed classes for getting XML output from the SQL Server database is given below. This code uses the XML AUTO mode for generating the XML data.

Many studies show that long-term exercise helps relieve symptoms of depression. Even if youre not depressed, most people who periodically feel grumpy, irritable, stressed, or sad report feeling better after working out.

A new study, conducted by Dr John B. Bartholomew and colleagues (2005), tells us that just one 30-minute bout of moderate intensity exercise is enough to improve the mood of patients with major depressive disorder, a serious clinical condition. The studys authors believe that this single-session mood lift also applies to those of us who just feel down.

The study compared 30 minutes of quiet rest and 30 minutes of walking on a treadmill at 60-70% of each patients age-predicted heart rate maximum. While both activities were found to reduce feelings of confusion, tension, anger, distress and fatigue, only exercise was found to significantly improve the patients vigor and sense of wellbeing. These beneficial changes tapered off by 60 minutes after the completion of their assigned tasks.

The researchers suggest that these results may be due to biochemical changes that occur during exercise or may be related to a sense of achievement that comes with the successful completion of an activity, or both.

The results of this study do not prove that a single walk or bout of exercise will provide lasting clinical effects against depression, but they do suggest that a brief walk might be a cheap and easy way to get a much-needed emotional lift. This lift could prove invaluable to people who cannot tolerate the adverse effects of antidepressants or to those who have just commenced pharmacologic treatment. In this case, symptomatic relief can take anywhere from two to eight weeks to be achieved.

The investigators conclude that the findings are promising enough to warrant further study “to determine the limits of acute exercise to provide this short-term benefit.”
