You Have To Love It All The Latest Devices Available On The Market Today

Lexar Jump Drive Mercury
\r You have to love it all the latest devices available on the market today. Especially all the jump drives and memory sticks that can make your life so much easier these days. As a woman I dont like any complicated devices. I do use memory sticks on a daily basis and I like to check out all the new devices on the market.
I have recently read about the Lexar Jump Drive Mercury which I found very cool. The drive not only can store 1Gb- 2Gb of data but also it has the coolest feature than no other drive has had before. It actually has an external capacity meter. It is amazing how you dont have too plug it in anymore to see how much space you have left on your drive; it shows you right away when you look at the stick casing. Another great feature that the drive has is a Secure II software system which allows you to create a password protected partition and allow you to shred deleted files. The only con that I found about this feature is that if you have deleted files you might never be able to recover them. So I think I will think twice about shredding anything.
Transcend Jet Flash 210
\r I also found out about a Transcend Jet Flash 210 which got me hooked. This device is really great. It can store from 1 GB-2GB of data. I think that this new device really is interesting. With a swab of your finger print you are accessing the drive. I think that this is perfect since you will not have to worry anymore about someone else stealing and using your data. I lost my jump drive once and it did not feel good since I could not imagine a total stranger looking thru my pictures and data that I had saved.
This stick allows you to pick ten other trusted members so they could also enter the data. I think thats great since you could let your husband or boyfriend use the stick or you could prevent them from using it and keep it private. This device should be great for teachers, students like me or for everyone else. Not only does it look good but actually has a purpose of storing and making sure you feel safe about your data.
I found this very interesting and decided to share this information with other potential jump drive users.

All You Need to Know About Tape Drives
Tape drives are useful backups to store data. The faster variety can transfer 20MB per second. Other tape drives can accommodate kilobytes and gigabytes in the hundreds. These kinds of media, however, are sequential-access devices, meaning you have to read through previous data before you can get to the latest input. You need to rewind data, and this takes time. The search time may be slow but streaming data into tape drives is real fast. ...

Leak Prevention - Data Security in the Digital Age
October 5th, 2008
With a recent spate of high-profile data leaks, the need for reliable data security is top-of-mind for many business owners and administrators. And whether the leaks are intentional, unintentional or malicious in nature, an information leak can cost companies millions of dollars and the trust of their clients or partners. In fact, according to the 2006 Cost of Data Breach Study from The Ponemon Institute, in 2006, data breaches cost companies an average total of $4.7, or $182 per customer record lost.
\”The burden companies must bear as a result of a data breach are significant, making a strong case for more strategic investments in preventative measures such as encryption and data loss prevention,\” said Dr. Larry Ponemon, chairman and founder of The Ponemon Institute, in a written statement. \”Tough laws and intense public scrutiny mean the consequences of poor (data) security are steep and growing steeper for companies entrusted with managing stores of consumer data.\”
Among the 31 companies that participated in the study (which all experienced security breaches) the breaches occurred as a result of the following:
\r 45% of the data security breaches were a result of lost or stolen laptops, desktops, PDAs, or thumb drives
\r 29% were caused by lost or stolen files acquired or used by a third-party
\r 26% of the breaches were caused by lost or stolen electronic backups
\r 13% were caused by lost or stolen paper records or files
\r 10% involved hacked electronic systems
\r 6% were caused by malicious insiders
\r 6% were caused by malware
\r 3% of the data security breaches were caused by a misplaced network or enterprise storage device due to a natural disaster
Data Protection: How to Increase Your Data Security
\r To diminish the risk of a data security breach, companies need an information-centric solution with proven coverage, simplicity, and data protection capabilities. And whether you choose a product like the Websense Content Protection Suite or another information leak prevention (ILP) solution, there are steps you can take to reduce your risk of losing valuable data. These include:
\r Using an ILP tool to discover where the sensitive data resides. This will help you not only inventory the data you have, but help you understand how you can develop a data protection plan to suit your needs.
\r Monitor the data on the network and watch how its used. This will reveal the risks and (perhaps) the broken business processes that exist.
\r Set up data protection policies and assign a value to each piece of sensitive information. Once it is determined how sensitive the data is, you can determine the cost-benefit of protecting the data and the value of the data to your organization. With that in mind, you can set parameters for how the data will be accessed, who may access it and for how long.
\r Once the data protection policy has been developed, its important to educate your employees and explain the consequences that not following the policy will carry.
Unfortunately, no data security plan is foolproof especially when employees carry laptops from place to place. But with an ILP solution and a data protection policy firmly in place, your chances of experiencing a data leak can significantly decrease.

USB Drives - They Are Small and Reliable and Are Now Coming With Bigger and Bigger Capacities
October 4th, 2008
The data storage devices are so easy to use that they are increasingly being viewed as a backup option by most of the companies. It is important for a company to conduct an appropriate analysis before deciding their backup options. Data can be of different nature such as graphics, emails, or databases. In addition, data can have varying degrees of confidentiality. Therefore, companies will have to analyse their storage decisions based on the type of data as well as the degree of confidentiality of their data. One of the options that is fast emerging as a viable preference for data backups is a USB drive. A USB drive allows the backup hardware to run as a plug and play while the computer is running. USB is an interface between the user and add-on devices such as keyboards and printers.
A USB port allows you to install a new device onto your computer without shutting down your computer or adding any adapter card. This feature makes data storage and data backups on the USB drive an effortless task. Earlier, the USB sockets were not fast enough to make USB drives an exciting option. However, with the introduction of USB 2.0 specification, transfer speed of up to 480M bit/sec can be easily supported, transforming USB drive into an attractive option amongst the users. The storage space, portable nature, and relatively high speeds make a USB drive a far better alternative than other data backup media such as tapes and CDs. In addition, there is no need to install a new drive as you would have to if you were to burn CD-Rs or DVD-Rs for backing up data. There is no external power source required to plug a USB drive into your machine. Furthermore, you will not experience problems such as scratches or warping with USB drives as is common with CD-ROMS and DVD-ROMs. This minimizes the media handling and physical storage hassles.
USB drives are very cheap these days. A 500 GB USB drive costs far cheaper than a tape drive alternative because there is no additional media cost associated with a USB drive. Since the storage space of the USB is only increasing by the day, zipping your files before backing them up can store huge amounts of data onto a single USB drive. Due to these reasons, a USB drive is fast gaining popularity in the data backup market. A USB drive can be used to store applications such as operating system as well. Therefore, in the event of a system crash, operating system can be re-installed very easily with the help of a USB drive. As we have observed, a USB drive has many benefits attached to it. However, there are certain limitations that USB drives face as a backup option. We will analyse these limitations to understand the risks associated with backing up data on a USB drive.
Limitations of a USB Drive
- Your data needs to be backed up effectively. Backups need to occur automatically to do away with any human error and to ensure that the backed up data is always up-to-date. By choosing a USB drive as a backup option, your backup systems will not be foolproof because employees can forget to back up their data on a daily basis, which can make your business very vulnerable to data loss disasters.
- Typically, businesses use one USB drive to back up multiple computers because purchasing multiple USB drives can be expensive. Therefore, every computer gets backed up one by one. If a data loss incident occurs around this time, then all the data on the other computers will be completely lost. In addition, if you are using a single USB drive to back up your data, then you will never be able to store your data off-site. This is typical catch 22 situation that you would want to avoid because, if you have your backup media, then you do not have off-site data protection and, if you have off-site storage, then you do not have a backup media.
- USB drives generally are not considered very secure because they are so compact in size and can be lost easily by people using them. Imagine losing a USB drive with your companys confidential data! Some vendors now offer encryption, which can offer protection against such human errors.

What Is Data Recovery And Why Does It Matter To You?
October 3rd, 2008
To be precise, the phrase data recovery refers to the process whereby data is saved from storage media that has either been corrupted, damaged, failed, or made inaccessible for some reason. When data cannot be accessed the way it normally is, then we have to seek ways to recover it. This also happens to such entities as hard disk drives on computers, compact discs, DVDs, RAID, storage tapes, and other forms of electronics.
Data loss typically comes about as a result of either physical damage to the device storing the data or else logical damage done to the devices file storage system. The latter type of damage results in the data being unable to be mounted by the hosts operating system.
The term data recovery might also refer to the process whereby information that has been deleted is retrieved and secured from a storage system for forensic purposes.
Physical damage can afflict storage media in a variety of fashions. For one thing, a compact disc storing pertinent data can be affected by having one of its layers or its metallic substrate scraped off of it. Hard drive disks often experience mechanical failures, such as failed motors or head crashes. Quite often, tapes simply break down.
The problem with physical damage is that it always causes the loss of at least some if not all data on the storage device. Sometimes the systems logical structures can be seriously damaged as well. Logical damage must be dealt with immediately in order for any data recovery to occur.
It is much more common for logical damage to occur than physical damage. Most of the time, logical damage comes about as the result of a power outage, which will prevent the structures of the file system from being written to the desired storage media. As a result, the file system remains inconsistent. If your system is behaving in a strange fashion or crashes, you might lose some pertinent data that will have to be recovered. Thankfully, it is much easier to do this when it is a case of logical damage, rather than physical damage.

Introduction
Designing a disaster recovery system requires planning and consideration of the available options that will best fit your companys needs, SLA and budget.
With SANRAD DR Solution there is no need to use Log shipping (which requires extra recovery steps) or Microsoft SQLs built in replication mechanism (which requires the configuration of a publisher and a subscriber). SANRAD DR makes the data and transaction log available to the SQL server on the remote site for immediate use. Even if there is no SQL server on the remote site, once built after a disaster, it will be able to access the data immediately with minimum recover time. SANRAD DR solution is a hot standby solution when there is a server on the remote site and a warm standby solution when there is no SQL server on the remote site (which will be built after a disaster).
This guide will help you design Disaster Recovery plan for Microsoft SQL 2000 in conjunction with .\r The guide assumes that you have basic knowledge of SANRAD V-Switch and MSSQL 2000 Administration.
Disaster Recovery Planning For Microsoft SQL 2000\r This section discusses both general and MSSQL specific considerations that need to be addressed when designing a disaster recovery solution combining and Microsoft SQL 2000.
General Considerations
solution allows for flexibility with Microsoft SQL 2000 disaster recovery design.\r The most influential factors affecting design consideration are:
\r Budget limitations
\r Recovery Time Objective (RTO) requirements (the time until the data is back online)
\r Recovery Point Objective (RPO) requirements (the amount of data that can be lost)
\r Network bandwidth between the local site and remote site
\r Replication method: Synchronous versus Asynchronous
\r Replication frequency (only for Asynchronous replication)
\r Initial volume synchronization
RTO (Recovery Time Objective)
\r With high level RTO, duplicate hardware is required to allow quick recovery making the solution more costly.
RPO (Recovery Point Objective)
\r RPO requirements are best defined by the amount of data that the company is willing to lose.
\r High level RPO requires more bandwidth for both Synchronous and Asynchronous replication.
\r Low level RPO requires less frequent replication and smaller bandwidth.\r
Network Bandwidth between the Local and Remote sites
\r Bandwidth between the sites is generally the most crucial factor affecting the replication component of a solution.
\r T1 (1.5Mb) links impose less frequent data replication and the use of asynchronous replication methods.
\r T3 (45Mb) links or a 1Gb links allow frequent replication and the flexibility to choose between synchronous replication or asynchronous replication methods.
\r
Replication method
\r When considering which replication method to choose it is important to remember:
\r In Synchronous Replication the I/O commands are written to the local disk and to the remote volume at the same time. Every IO command requires an acknowledgment from both the local and remote sites before the next command. Consequently, synchronous replication is best deployed with a high bandwidth connection in order to allow the remote acknowledgment to arrive back to the local site as fast as possible and the replication can run faster.
\r In Asynchronous Replication the I/O commands are written to the local volume and local journal volume which in turn is replicated periodically to the remote volume as periodically defined by the user. Consequently asynchronous replication can work well with lower bandwidth (minimum recommended for Microsoft SQL 2000 replication is 1.5 Mb).
\r For Asynchronous replication, you must decide the data replication frequency. There are three factors that must be considered:
\r 1. The size of the network bandwidth between the sites.
\r 2. The amount of data changes that need to replicate each time. For example, large amounts of data changes take longer to replicate using T1 links.
\r 3. The RPO requirements.
Initial Volume Synchronization\r solution can be used to protect existing production Microsoft SQL 2000 data. solution supports both online and offline synchronization. When using with existing Microsoft SQL 2000 data, an Initial synchronization of the Microsoft SQL 2000 volumes on the local site to the remote site must be performed.
The initial volume sync method depends on:
\r The size of the volumes needed to be synchronized.
\r The network bandwidth between the sites. For example, the bigger the volume size, the longer it will take to synchronize over a T1 link.
\r Online synchronization starts immediately when replication is started and uses the same network link that will be used during the replication.
\r Offline synchronization is a manual process where prepares the volumes on the primary site and the user must copy the data to the remote site. It is the users responsibility to make sure the volumes on the remote site are synchronized.
\r
Microsoft SQL 2000 Considerations
\r Any Microsoft SQL 2000 Disaster Recovery planning should (at the very least) consider the following requirements:
\r Quick access to the most recent copy of the Microsoft SQL 2000 database and the transaction logs. In a disaster situation provides fast access to the most recent replicated data on the remote site.
\r The Microsoft SQL 2000 database and its related transaction logs must be replicated together to the remote site. uses consistency groups to ensure simultaneous replication of all volumes assigned to a consistency group.

Warning Signs of a Computer Breakdown
October 2nd, 2008
The scary reality about computer crashes is that the warning signs are fewif they exist at alland even when you know what to look for, these signs can be very difficult to detect.
For this reason, computer backup is necessary every day, because its near impossible to know if, or when, your hard drive is at risk of an imminent crash.
I often hear prospective clients say dismissively: Well, I just bought this computer not too long agoits practically brand newso I dont need to worry about backup just yet.
And thats when I tell them about Google, the single largest owner of computer hard drives in the world.
In February 2007, Google Inc. released a study that they conducted on their own computers entitled Failure Trends in a Large Disk Drive Population. According to this study, which was the most extensive of its kind ever completed, hard drives are most likely to fail if they are less than 3 months old, or more than 2 years old. Basically, if you think computer backup is unnecessary because your computer is new, you may be in for a terrible shock.
But if youre still intent on holding off on all precautionary action until you can personally perceive a problem with your computer, there are some signs thatif youre lucky enough to notice themmay indicate that your computer is in imminent danger of a critical crash. I want to emphasize, though, that these warnings may, or may NOT, be apparent. The absence of any or all of these signs does not mean that your hard drive is in the clear.
Remember: a hard drive crash can happen unexpectedly at any given moment, and the likelihood that you will see it coming is ridiculously small, and certainly not worth the risk. Operating your business on a computer without automatic daily offsite backup is a recipe for bankruptcy, as over 70% of companies that suffer major data loss go out of business within one year.
That being said, here are several warning signs that may indicate that your computer is at risk of hard drive failure:
1. Your computer is slow to boot (turn on).
If you notice that your computer is not starting up quite as quickly as it usually does, and this decrease in speed cannot be attributed to the installation of new anti-virus software, your hard drive may be suffering from bad blocks/sectors.
Your hard drive contains magnetically coated metal disks that spin at a speed of about 5400 times per minute. If these disks (or their coating) become damaged in any way, a catastrophic failure is likely within 6 months time.
2. Your computer starts to whir, and/or make noise.
A change in the way that your computer sounds could indicate that the disks within your hard drive are having difficulty completing their rotation. Remember: your computer has moving parts, and these parts are situated in extremely close proximity to each other. Specks of dust, not visible to the human eye, can damage these disks and impede their movement, let alone the metal fingers that support these disks.
3. Your computer experiences a read/write error, or indicates that a disk has failed to respond.
According to the Google Inc. study mentioned above, hard drives are 30 times more likely to fail within 60 days of experiencing an initial scan error, than drives that have yet to receive such errors.
So how can you protect your computer against a crash?
1. The number one BEST way to protect your computer (and your business) is not to attempt to protect it against a crash, but to plan for data recovery after a crash.
The reason being is there is no fail-safe way to prevent a computer crash. Simply search automatic computer backup and the name of your city, province or state, to sign up with one of the many secure online storage services available.
2. Enlist the services of a reputable IT Service company that offers monthly service contracts, and have them clean and test your hard drive on a regular basis.
Regular cleaning of your hard drive will not only prolong the life of your computer, but will reduce the risk for data loss.
3. Ask your computer to scan for errors and bad blocks.
Your computer may not be kind enough to automatically alert you when sectors of your hard drive are damaged, but you can ask it to scan for trouble. To do so, follow these steps:
Right click on My Computer.
\r Select Manage, which brings up the Computer Management display that is split between a right and a left side.
\r On the left side look for Event Viewer, and click the plus sign to its left. A list will appear below.
\r Click System. A list will appear in the right side of the display.
\r Scroll down the list to search for any red X Error entries. These entries indicate an existing problem.
\r Double click on the red X entries to bring up the Event Properties display, which will tell you more about the error.
In closing, I highly recommend that you commit, right now, to backing up your computer via an offsite secure storage service. Waiting one more day to protect your business, may just be one day too many.

Consequences Of Data Loss And Why Should Offsite Backup Be Used
October 2nd, 2008
There is a calculated trend in all business corporations and firms: when the enterprise is getting bigger, its support of data increases its complexity, volume and value. The larger your enterprise is, the more significant your data files become. The traditional tape backup can no longer produce in-depth data information about all the important features of your business. Thats why many people get acknowledged to a more adequate file protection. A secure offsite backup system can be the possible solution. Business owners and offices managers have got it straight: if the business is to flourish, precise data information storage should be used.
Offsite backup systems offer something, which no other data store can do: they protect to the greatest extent all your files. But why should they do that, you may ask. Imagine you are a business owner. You have your own office computer, which is crammed up with all the valuable info. Well, what if the computer gets stolen, or a short-cut puts it out of practice? What will happen to your enterprise? If you are still not convinced enough to the rational extent, lets consider the following statistic data. 1 in every 4 computer users suffers a critical data loss every year. Last years over 500,000 were stolen. Disk and other hardware failures are so numerous that major disk and computer manufacturers/resellers are reducing their warranties to 12 months. Over 25% of data loss is a result of computer program errors, software viruses and natural disasters (factors completely out of your control). 50% of businesses that lose their data never open their doors again. Of those businesses that do manage to stay open, 90% end up failing within two years. Data loss will cost business an estimated 12 Billion this year.
Still not believing? Consider the following fact: computer experts say that once data is lost, it can no longer be recovered to the full. Some data that contains pieces of valuable information will be forever lost in the digital space, with no hope of getting it back. Disaster recovery planning (DV) often fails to extract the lost files in the similar way as they were before the disaster struck. This happens because of the various regulations and compliance, which occur during the recovery process.
Data loss can happen to anyone, no matter how good the tape protection system is. There is no tape backup that can comprise all the valuable information without omitting some precious stuff. Text documents, financial records, contact records, address books, email messages and databases that you have created on your computer or servers may disappear forever unless you take a serious action to prevent it. The lost files are hard to recover, and it takes a lot of precious time and nerve-racking to recover even to the approximate extent the ruined system as it was before the disaster. The value of data highly exceed the mere cost of your computer or server, as you have to pay a great amount of money for reproducing the whole information as it was before the crack down. So, the most reasonable thing to do, if you dont want to spend a lot of money afterwards, is to re-ensure your system using secure online backups.
Even though that is the sacred truth, most people avoid taking backup precautions. They leave their data files unprotected, and thus expose their business on the danger of bankrupt. Why do people do it? Because of laziness, because they dont want to spend additional money, or just because they think that would never happen to them. Is it so hard to take some pre-consideration and backup your data? Sooner or later, everyone gets a strike in their unprotected file systems. Then it is too late to split hairs over the lost information. You should better take the action in advance and construct a data backup system, so that your files are fully protected and your business is ensured.

Offsite Backup Be Very Careful Who You Deal With!
The concept of offsite data backup is not new; some time ago it was only available to corporate institutions that had multiple locations, high connectivity speeds and very high budgets. Today the cost of hardware and high speed connectivity has greatly reduced, as a result the number of companies offering backup to a remote location has greatly increased. For purposes of conversation, we can call it jumping on the band wagon. You may think the ...
Novell Operating System - Recovery of Sub-Allocated Volumes
October 1st, 2008
Problem Description
Data storage in Novell servers is optimized using sub-allocated volumes. Sub-allocated volumes are a new feature and have been implemented on Netware 4.x to overcome the problem of wasted disk space. These volumes are different from regular Novell volumes because they are more of a virtual volume one that is not visible, but exists nevertheless - and this is what complicates the issue. Since they are not physically visible, a separate data recovery module has to be incorporated into the software to ensure complete recovery.
Technical Aspect of the Problem
Sub-allocation refers to multiple file-endings sharing disk blocks. The data in a file is stored in the hard disk in multiple blocks, each block being a collection of sectors of standard size. There are, almost always, some unutilized sectors at the end of a file. These under-allocated sectors of different files are combined together to form a separate virtual volume.
For Example: Say, a volume stores data in blocks of 4 sectors, each sector having size = 512 bytes. A block is the minimum amount of space that can be assigned to a file. Now, if there is a file containing 520 bytes of data, the first sector is entirely occupied and the remaining 8 bytes go into the second sector. This leaves 2 entire sectors unused. These unutilized sectors of different files are combined together to form a separate sub-allocated volume, thus saving space and optimizing data storage.
The sub-allocated volume is virtual, that is, it does not show up as a separate logical volume. It is internally used by the Operating System (Netware 4.x) to optimize disk space utilization, and data recovery from such volumes thus needs advanced software.
Technical Aspect of the Solution
Phoenix Novell is a Windows based application and can only be installed on a Windows based hard disk. Therefore, the failed Novell based disk needs to be attached as a secondary disk to a Windows based disk with Phoenix installed in it. After the damaged disk is attached, Phoenix needs to be run from the working disk.
The software first detects all the disks along with the associated volumes/partitions and displays the list. It then scans the selected volume and displays the list of found data. While scanning the visible volume, the software also uses an advanced module to detect and scan the invisible sub allocated volume. After the scan is complete, all the details are listed in a simple tree structure and any number of files can be selected for recovery.
Working of Phoenix Novell
The damaged server disk needs to be connected as a secondary to a working Windows based disk with Phoenix Novell installed in it. The software is then run to start the recovery process.
Clicking Select Netware Partition will display a list of hard disks with their respective volumes. Select the damaged volume on the server disk to start the scan process. Apart from scanning the selected volume, a separate software module also detects and scans the virtual sub allocated volume. The entire list of found data (from the regular Netware volume and its sub allocated volume) is then displayed.
Any number of files can be selected for recovery, and clicking Recover Selected will restore the selected files. Alternatively, clicking Recover Deleted will recover all the files listed in the displayed list of files.

Novell Data Recovery - Recovery of Segmented Volumes
Problem DescriptionSegmented volumes refer to volumes which have had their size increased by taking disk space from another area. This space is usually taken from another disk, resulting in the Volume existing in segments across different disks, and hence the name segmented volumes. Segmented volumes add flexibility and are particularly useful in cases of important volumes needing additional disk space.Segmented volumes, however, have data stretc...
Novell Data Recovery Software - Recovery of Re-partitioned Volumes
Problem DescriptionPartitions refer to the portions of the hard disk that have their own logical file structure. Re-partitioning means deleting and resizing the current partitions on the disk. Since re-partitioning almost always involves deleting the current partitions, all previously held data in the partition is lost. This is usually done to re-align the space and data on the hard disk, but may also be the result of plain human error, the end r...
Novell Data Recovery - Recovery of Formatted Volumes
Problem DescriptionFormatting a volume effectively means erasing it in its entirety. Formatting is usually done to remove sensitive data on a volume, or it may be done to prepare a volume for fresh usage (usually done after corruption), or it may just be the result of plain human error. Whatever the reason, the end result is that the user cannot access data. Phoenix Novells advanced software engine can recover data from formatted volumes.Technic...
Novell Operating System - Recovery of Compressed Data
Problem DescriptionData stored in a working Novell server is automatically compressed to save space, and is obviously decompressed before it is displayed to a user. Phoenix Novell recovers lost data exactly as it was stored in the hard disk, and the recovered data may be compressed. This gives rise to the problem of recovered data being unusable (because it is in a compressed format).Phoenix, however, has a new and advanced uncompression engine t...

The Importance of Backing Up
October 1st, 2008
In this computerized digital age, making backups of your critical data has become a crucial necessity.
Youve probably heard the old clich: An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure. This couldnt be a more accurate statement when it comes to backing up and saving your valuable data.
When your hard drive fails will you be prepared? Its not a matter of If the drive fails, but more so When the drive fails.
Taking the relatively small amount of time, and resources to make a backup can save you and perhaps even your company potentially thousands of dollars in disaster recovery costs, loss of revenue and downtime.
Having backups of critical information is a must.
Data is simply Digital Information. Once this information is lost or inaccessible due to a hard drive failure, you quickly realize the value of that information.
Make Backups. Then verify the contents of your Backups, and Make Backups of your Backups.
If however you do find yourself in a quandary with a failed hard drive. Do not panic.
Here are some tips:
*Any* sounds emitting from your drive is not a good sign. Power down immediately.
Do NOT run scandisk, CHKDSK or any other disk checking utilities, as this could make matters seriously worse.
Avoid powering the computer on and off. The clicking sound from your hard drive that you may be hearing, could lead to a grinding sound. Far less optimistic for successful recovery.
NEVER, EVER listen to a computer Guru friend who says: I can fix it! Hard drives are delicate mechanical storage devices, and the inner workings and mechanics should always be left to a trained, experienced data recovery engineer. The hard drive is one of the few components of a computer that actually still has moving, mechanical parts.
If you do happen to find yourself with this type of unfortunate situation, ECO Data Recovery has been recovering critical data since 1987. Their highly skilled engineers have the ability, the know how and the proper techniques to get you and/or your business back on the speedy road to recovery.

The Importance of Branding - Can It Really Make a Difference?
As consumers, we don't really think about the importance of branding. We just seem to go with the flow of brand names that have become synonymous with our daily living. But the impact of a name reinforces the importance of branding when we promote our business. Think about one of the world's most popular athletic shoe companies, Nike. The importance of branding is exemplified by the fact that when you hear Nike, you think athletics and "Just ...

The Importance of Backing Up Data
Back-ups are a very important, yet often neglected, part of using a computer. I learnt this the hard way. I had to rebuild my computer from scratch several times before implementing complete back-ups on the full system. Most people back up little to none of their files on a daily basis. They dont back-up emails, address books or even accounts data, and then get frustrated when all work is lost.Speaking from experience it takes several months i...
Tips for Failed Hard Drive Data Recovery
October 1st, 2008
One thing that manufacturers of hard drives do not tell us when we buy our brand new computers, is that hard drives are subject to fail, regardless of the amount of time they are used. With some systems it may take more than 10 years before the hard drive failure occurs, while others can fail within just a year of normal use. Because of this, failed hard drive data recovery is an important issue that needs some thought.
Basically, there are two main types of hard drive failure. The first is those hard drives that fail due to a software problem, and the second failed hard drive category applies in the case of a physical malfunction with the hard drive.
Referring to the first category, the failed hard drive data recovery is usually considered when the data on the drive gets corrupted due to something like a corrupted partition table, damaged boot record, or missing root directory information. A lot of experts feel that the hard drive failure due to software is generally easier to recover with the use of easily available failed hard drive data recovery software.
It involves a much more complicated process when you need to recover data from a failed hard drive that has physically malfunctioned. This is because when the failed hard drive has been physically damaged in some way, then any additional access to the hard drive may cause further corruption to the data stored on the drive. It is harder for the failed hard drive data recovery process to obtain the key files and stored information back from the hard drive. Most of the failed hard drive data recovery services that you will see advertised are offered for this category of failed hard drive data recovery.
If you are unlucky enough to need a failed hard drive data recovery, bear in mind that a greater level of caution is needed so that your data recovery is successful. When you are considering using any of the failed hard drive data recovery software you need to be aware that there will be a risk of further data loss as the software gets to work on the hard drive. One of the best ways to avoid an additional damage is to create an image of the drive using an imaging tool.
If as an example, your failed hard drive happens to be the drive which contains the operating system, the best failed hard drive data recovery step you can take is not to boot the drive at all if this is possible. According to the experts this is reasonably simple for a desktop system - all you need to do is to disconnect the boot drive and replace it with a new drive. For this to be totally successful you need to ensure that you have a drive with a large enough capacity to hold the image of the current drive.
You will then be able to install an operating system on the new drive. This basic failed hard drive data recovery step is accomplished by just reconnecting the old drive as a slave unit or by placing it in an external case and then connecting to it through USB or FireWire. However, for your failed hard drive data recovery to work best, it is important to disconnect the current boot partition, because trying to install the Operating System on the new drive will just result in temporary files being written to the old drive.
